Our visit to Khajuraho

This past December we decided to go to Khajuraho. The plan originally was to spend 2-3 days in Khajuraho, but our friends and family who had visited Khajuraho before advised us that 1 day is sufficient. They were right. Don't get me wrong here. Khajuraho is definitely worth a visit.
The three of us decided to fly to Khajuraho. The temple town is well connected by air. Though Indian railways has recently constructed a station, I'd still recommend using air transportation. We were lucky enough to get a room in Archeological Survery of India's guest house. It is basically right next door to the main temple complex housing Kandariya Mahadev and Lakshman temples. This was good since December end time period is the peak season to visit Khajuraho and with a toddler the proximity is very beneficial.
Our flight from Delhi reached Khajuraho towards the afternoon. The first thing we did was visit the ASI museum, which houses some of the fallen idols. Our son Sameer was able to enjoy the museum. He saw many idols of his favorite God Ganesh ji. After our lunch, we headed into the temple complex. By this time, due to the intensity of the Sun and afternoon nap time approaching, Sameer was fast asleep. Our driver offered to watch after Sameer. We visited most of the temple complex without Sameer, though I am sure he would have enjoyed the temples. BTW, contrary to popular belief, only 10% of the sculptures are erotic in nature. When Sameer woke up we showed him various idols of elephants and Nandi, the bull. He wasn't too pleased with the sound and light show in the late evening mainly because they didn't have as much light as he wanted. Ruchi and I surely enjoyed it and were able to get a good historical perspective.
The next day we went to a temple in the same Western complex, which is still being used for worship. Our taxi cab driver also took us to the Eastern complex, which mainly has Jain connotations. These temples too had interesting carvings. There was another temple complex which is completely destroyed -- 64 Yogini. It still had some semblance of a temple. The base was still intact, otherwise the ignorant invaders had destroyed it all.
